How Our Trademark Agreement Works
Here’s how the process and legal structure work at Mr. Carpentry:
We Retain Ownership of the Trademark
I (the licensor) keep full ownership of the federally registered MR CARPENTRY ® trademark. What you receive is a contractual right to use the name and branding in your territory. This is not a sale or assignment of the mark — it’s a license. Exclusive Territory Rights
You get an exclusive license. No other company will be allowed to use the Mr. Carpentry name for carpentry and related services within your defined territory (city, multi-city region, or full state). I also agree not to grant those rights to anyone else in your area. → Clear Scope
Your license agreement clearly spells out:
Your exact territory
The services covered (all carpentry, framing, finish, custom woodworking, permit packages, designs, etc.)
Term length and renewal terms
Allowed customer channels (primarily residential and light commercial)
Simple, Predictable Compensation
You pay a one-time setup fee for your territory plus a flat monthly licensing fee.
There are no royalties on your revenue, no percentage cuts, and no complicated accounting. You keep everything you earn.Quality Control & Brand Protection
To keep the trademark strong and legally protected, the agreement includes reasonable quality standards. This means:
Using the name and logo according to our brand guidelines
Maintaining professional standards consistent with the Mr. reputation
Carrying appropriate insurance
Using the ® symbol when displaying the mark
These rules are designed to protect the brand for everyone — including you — without micromanaging how you run your daily operations.
Termination & Transfer
The agreement is clear on what happens if fees aren’t paid or standards aren’t met. Upon termination, you stop using the Mr. Carpentry name for service.
You can sell or transfer your license to a new buyer (subject to our reasonable approval of the buyer and the buyer agreeing to the same terms). This gives you the ability to realize value from the territory if you choose to exit. Federal Trademark Protection
